FROM THE ARCHITECTS

Situated in the prominent West Walk development in Alwaab, a local neighborhood in mainland Doha, Juno is an Italo-American bistro designed by Rawan Muqaddas and Selma Akkari. Tasked by a local restaurant group, the duo envisioned a contemporary “neo-diner” that merges comfort, nostalgia, and an approachable dining experience. Drawing from both the timeless Italian establishment and the classic American diner, the interior creates a warm, welcoming environment. A grand façade introduces abundant natural light, and bi-fold windows allow seamless indoor–outdoor flow during cooler months. Curved elements gently guide circulation through subtly textured plastered walls. A major design challenge was the double-height ceiling at the front of the restaurant. The architects resolved this by defining strong architectural volumes — most notably a warm wood-clad mezzanine that houses the pizza bar and service area. A glass-block wall near the staircase reveals glimpses of activity between the kitchen and service zones, adding depth and a retro touch. The extensive use of warm wood pays homage to traditional restaurants, giving the space a nostalgic charm. Materials were carefully curated for contrast and playfulness. The floor features bold terrazzo with large marble chips set in dark gray. Banquettes curve discreetly around colorful high-gloss tabletops in yellow and peach, edged in bright chrome — a direct nod to classic diner aesthetics. Wooden chairs by Vergés and custom-designed plates featuring the Juno logo complete the interior language. Overall, the design establishes Juno as a neighborhood anchor — a cozy, light-filled, thoughtfully detailed space that blends cultural references into a cohesive, contemporary bistro.
