Aculco House, DESIGNED BY PPAA
FROM THE ARCHITECTS
The Aculco project is a holiday home completely disconnected from the city, set deep in nature and near dramatic cliff formations. Conceived as a resting space immersed in its surroundings, the house maintains a direct and continuous relationship with the landscape. The site was discovered by two brothers during a climbing trip. After falling in love with the place, they purchased and cared for the land for several years — even reforesting it — before deciding to build. The design sought to ensure a respectful dialogue with the environment. Minimal maintenance and a strong connection to the outdoors were central goals. The house is built from locally sourced solid quarry stone, mud flooring, wood, and glass, all preserved in their natural state. With clean, pared-back spaces, the architecture becomes a simple container of views. Given the remote location, construction required careful coordination to minimize environmental impact while still bringing in necessary labor and materials.
